DAY 22 - Thursday, October 11 - DAILY QUOTES

Dave - Today we left El Capitan State Park – north of Santa Barbara. It was nice to clean our bikes at the campground after the wet and muddy day before when we rode 80 miles. It was a relatively flat ride today to Leo Cabrillo State Park – just north of Malibu. This was one of our easier days through Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Oxnard. We rode 82 miles. It was nice to see a number of people from the Chatsworth Church who came to the campground to see us this evening.

Jodi - It was a challenging day for me but once again God helped me ride every mile. He brought encouragement along the way too. It was especially neat to see dolphins a couple of times today! I was really exhausted tonight and not feeling that well.

Brad - We pressed on down 101 to Oxnard for lunch and then I split off looking for the Memorial to Alaska flight 261. Apparently it was blocked off because of construction so I never saw it but that put and extra 8 miles on my legs and I arrived at the camp ground about 20 minutes behind the group. Also noticed my tire was going flat. It was interesting that no one in Oxnard could tell me exactly where the memorial was, not even the information center. How soon we forget.

Jesse –We rode from Santa Barbara, through Ventura and to Leo Carrillo state park which is about 30 minutes from our house. The closer we got to the ending the easier the trip became as it was a little familiar to me. Although, as I was riding with Dutch, who rode it in the car earlier, said as we rode, "the end is just around the corner", but that was with about 8 miles to go. Many people from our church met us at camp that night, and they even brought Sherry another cake and a gift. It was nice to have them there and being by familiar territory. The ride was relatively easy, a few hills, but they were not that long. I am writing this a few days later, so I forget how long the day was, but I don't think it was longer than 80-85 miles.

Craig - Jim and I feel a little more spiritual than the other riders today. Apparently they found a bike trail that went around the hill we climbed. Go chili socks! It was nice to arrive at the camp a little early today. I also want to thank Steve and Jan for stopping by to encourage us as well as all the folks from the Chatsworth Church.
